Karen Huger’s fate has been sealed.
More than two months after The Real Housewives of Potomac star was found guilty on nearly all counts tied to her March 2024 DUI arrest, a Montgomery County, Maryland judge handed down her official sentence on Feb. 26. According to local Fox 5 News in Washington, D.C., Karen will spend two years in prison—with one year suspended—which means she’ll actually serve 12 months behind bars.
Prosecutors initially pushed for a two-year sentence with only six months suspended, citing Karen’s three prior DUIs.

The charges stem from an incident last March when Karen crashed her car near Bethesda, Maryland. She reportedly crossed a median and hit street signs, leading to a laundry list of charges, including driving under the influence, reckless driving, and negligent driving, among others.
“Although we are disappointed in the jury’s verdict, we of course respect their decision and appreciate their time hearing our case,” her attorney, A. Scott Bolden, told People at the time. “We continue to reserve Mrs. Huger’s right to an appeal and intend to fully pursue justice on her behalf. We appreciate your support and prayers for Mrs. Huger and her family at this time.”
Amid all of this, Karen has taken steps toward recovery. She recently checked into a rehab facility and even skipped the season nine reunion of RHOP to prioritize her well-being.

“Karen made the important decision to enter a private recovery program, so she was unable to attend the reunion taping today,” her manager, Ryan Tresdale, told Bravo’s Daily Dish last month. “She was fully supported in this choice. We stand behind Karen as she embarks on this meaningful journey and are proud of her for taking such a significant step forward in her personal growth.”
