President Trump announced on social media that he was reinstating Columbus Day, stating that it was never canceled as a federal holiday.

He declared his intention to bring the holiday back and referred to it as an important part of Italian American heritage.

“I’m bringing Columbus Day back from the ashes. The Democrats did everything possible to destroy Christopher Columbus…”

Trump criticized the Democrats for attempting to destroy Christopher Columbus’s reputation and claimed that they did everything possible to undermine the holiday.

Former President Biden recognized Indigenous Peoples’ Day in 2021 but did not rename Columbus Day, which is still officially observed in the United States.

The debate over the celebration of Columbus Day and the erasure of Indigenous people continues to be a topic of discussion.
