After 30 years at the helm of The Potter’s House, Bishop T.D. Jakes is stepping into a new role as he passes the torch to the next generation. On Sunday morning, during an emotional service in Dallas, Bishop Jakes announced that his daughter, Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts, along with her husband, Pastor Touré Roberts, will be the new senior pastors of the church. Their official leadership will begin this July.

Standing next to his wife, Serita Jakes, Bishop Jakes expressed his pride and trust in the couple. Fighting back tears, Sarah embraced her father and shared her gratitude, saying she was honored to take on the role not only as a pastor but as his daughter.
The announcement follows a challenging season for Bishop Jakes, who suffered a heart attack during a service in November 2024. Reflecting on his health scare, he told the congregation, “I cannot afford, especially after November, to risk something happening to me and you be sheep without a shepherd.” Church officials later confirmed that the leadership transition had been in the works for several years.

In a letter to the congregation, the Jakes family explained that this move was part of a carefully laid plan. They pointed to past milestones, like the end of “Woman, Thou Art Loosed” and the launch of “Woman Evolve” in 2022, and the installation of two assistant pastors in 2023, as steps leading up to this moment.
The letter emphasized that the mission of The Potter’s House will not only continue but expand, addressing urgent needs such as homeownership challenges, supporting young entrepreneurs, and providing a faith community for the next generation. Sarah and Touré’s leadership will focus heavily on keeping the ministry relevant and impactful.

Meanwhile, Bishop Jakes will remain active behind the scenes, continuing his work through the T.D. Jakes Group, which supports community building, job creation, and economic development across the country.
