DeMar DeRozan Allegedly Involved in Sushi Restaurant Altercation
Sacramento Kings forward DeMar DeRozan is reportedly under investigation following a heated altercation at a sushi restaurant in Calabasas, California.
According to a report from TMZ Sports, the incident took place Friday night at Yume Sushi, a popular upscale spot frequented by celebrities and athletes alike. A 28-second video released by the outlet appears to show DeRozan involved in a tense confrontation with another man inside the restaurant.
Witnesses claim the situation escalated after a man allegedly approached the NBA star and held a phone with a bright light directly in his face, possibly attempting to film or provoke him. In response, DeRozan allegedly knocked the device out of the individual’s hand.
The brief video shows a chaotic scene: DeRozan is seen grabbing for the legs of the man, who is on the ground during part of the altercation. After getting back to his feet, the man repeatedly demands the return of his phone while restaurant patrons watch on in shock.
At this time, it’s unclear what sparked the confrontation beyond the phone incident, and no serious injuries have been reported. Law enforcement sources told TMZ that police are reviewing the incident and determining whether charges are warranted. It’s also not clear whether DeRozan will face any legal consequences, though his camp has not released an official statement.
The Kings organization has also yet to comment on the matter.
DeRozan, a six-time NBA All-Star, was traded to the Sacramento Kings earlier this year and has maintained a reputation as one of the league’s more composed and professional players. This incident, if confirmed, marks a rare public controversy for the veteran forward.
