We are really living in some scary times right now. School used to be a safe haven for children, a place that they can feel safe and learn. Now on top of violence in schools and school shootings, they have to worry about their teachers calling ICE on them.
A Texas teacher is under investigation by his school district after he invited ICE to come to his school and round up the Spanish-speaking students.
According to the NY Post, a Texas School District officials have launched an investigation into one of their substitute teachers, that allegedly tweeted to the official Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) ‘X’ account inviting them to come to his Fort Worth, Texas high school to round up students.
“Y’all should come to Forth Worth, TX to Northside High School. I have many students who don’t even speak English and they are in 10th-11th grade. They have to communicate through their iPhone translator with me. The [US Department of Education] should totally overhaul our school system in Texas too,”
Forth Worth ISD interim superintendent Karen Molinar issued a statement obtained by KDFW, telling families that the matter was under investigation and that the district was “taking this situation very seriously and are committed to resolving it as quickly as possible.”
This comes after President Trump issued a directive that allows ICE to remove undocumented immigrants from “sensitive areas” like schools and churches.
