The Cleveland Browns have officially signed a new quarterback following Deshaun Watson’s season-ending injury.
Watson signed QB Bailey Zappe off the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad. He’ll backup Jameis Winston on Sunday, as Dorian Thompson-Robinson deals with an injury to his hand.
Watson was injured in the first half of Sunday’s home game against the Cincinnati Bengals. It was reported Monday that Watson ruptured his Achilles tendon and would be forced to sit out the rest of the season.

It’s been a rough three years for Watson in a Browns uniform since Cleveland sent multiple first-round picks to the Texans to get him. His poor play, plus the $230 fully guaranteed contract, has kept him at odds with most fans in Cleveland.
From FOX 8:
Zappe is in his third NFL season out of Western Kentucky. Originally selected by New England in the fourth round of the 2022 draft, Zappe has appeared in 14 games with eight starts. He has completed 192 of 304 passes for 2,053 yards and 11 touchdowns.
