Here Are All The Black Nominees For The 2019 Golden Globe Awards

The nominees for the 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards were announced on Thursday, pointing to some major gains for Black actors, actresses and directors this awards season.
Actors Terry Crews, Danai Gurira, Christian Slater and Leslie Mann were on hand as selected announcers to kick off the first award nominations of the winter season.
As suspected, the mega-blockbusterĀ Black PantherĀ racked up in the awards category with a total of three nominations, along with Barry Jenkinsā,Ā If Beale Street Could Talk.
Spike LeeāsĀ BlacKkKlansmanĀ secured four nominationsĀ andĀ Green Book,Ā starring starring Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen, secured a total of five nods.
Black PantherĀ was nominated for Best Motion Picture-Drama, making it the first comic book turned movie to ever secure a spot in the category. Supporters say the movieās nomination may be a sure-in for the coveted Oscar nomination, but weāll have to wait and see.
The movie was also nominated for Best Original Score and in the category of Best Original Song forĀ All The StarsĀ performed by Kendrick Lamar and SZA.
LeeāsĀ BlacKkKlansman,Ā the long-awaited adaptation of James BaldwināsĀ If Beale Street Could Talk, landed nods in the Best Motion Picture-Drama category.Ā Green BookĀ was nominated for Best Motion Picture ā Musical or Comedy.
In the Best Actor in a Motion Picture-Drama category, John David Washington secured a nomination for his lead role inĀ BlacKkKlansman. Spike Lee also was nominated for Best Director-Motion Picture, marking the second time heās secured a nomination since 1989āsĀ Do The Right Thing.Ā Mahershala AliĀ was nominated forĀ Best Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture for his work inĀ Green Book.
Barry JenkinsĀ secured a nod for Best Original Screenplay, while actress Regina King was nominatedĀ forĀ Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture for her role inĀ If Beale Street Could Talk.Ā King did amazing work last year, surmounting a second nominationĀ for NetflixāsĀ Seven SecondsĀ in the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
Brian Hayes Currie, Peter Farrelly & Nick Vallelonga were also nominated for Best Original Screenplay forĀ Green Book.
Creator Ryan Murphyās groundbreaking summer FX hitĀ PoseĀ was also nominated in the Best Television Series-Drama category.Ā PoseĀ portrayed a segment of the Black and Brown LGBTQ community cemented in the New York City ballroom culture of the 1980ās. One of the seriesā breakout star Billy Porter, secured a nomination in the category of Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series-Drama.
AtlantaĀ creator Donald Glover secured a nod for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series- Comedy or Musical.
Thandie Newton was nominated for her role in HBOāsĀ WestworldĀ in the category ofĀ Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
Unfortunately, no Black actors or Black centered shows were nominated in the following categories: Best Actress in a Motion Picture-Drama, Best Actress in a Motion Picture ā Musical or Comedy, Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series ā Drama,Ā Best Television Series ā Musical or Comedy, Ā Ā Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series ā Musical or Comedy,Ā Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television,Ā Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television,Ā Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, orĀ Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
And in the Best Director- Motion Picture category, no women were nominated.
But social media still found time to rejoice in the wins that Black creators were able to secure.
