Other programming moves from Fox include an upcoming “New Girl”/”Brooklyn Nine-Nine” crossover episode, and a one-hour “Simpsons” episode to be aired in the 2016-17 television season.
LOS ANGELES -“Empire” has booked what could be its biggest musical guest star to date.
Fox announced Monday that Mariah Carey has officially been recruited to guest star in an October episode of the network hit.
Carey will play a character named Kitty, “a mega-superstar who comes to ‘Empire’ to collaborate with Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett) on an explosive new song,” according to a press release from Fox.
The casting comes about one year after executive producer Lee Daniels first publicly said he hoped to have Carey appear on the show, which stars Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard.
In its first two seasons “Empire” has made it a habit of pulling in big names in music to play guest characters. Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz and Xzibit have all appeared. Pitbull, Timbaland and Ne-Yo have also appeared as themselves.
“Empire” season 3 premieres Sept. 21 right here on FOX 8.
